At Paris’s famed Le Bon Marché department store, we expected effortlessly chic fashion, luxurious, classic accessories and fabulous people watching. What we didn’t expect was an entire department transformed into a cross-branded, California-cool music studio.

Lola James Harper is a holistic and lifestyle project that hosts concerts, displays photography and even bottles fragrances. The French brand may be Parisian at heart, but its aesthetic is almost certainly inspired by the sixties and seventies in Los Angeles’ Laurel Canyon.

The brand’s two-year temporary space within Le Bon Marché has everything: photography, perfume, gorgeous guitars, a very hipster-chic coffee bar, even a place to play and record music. The exhibit is rounded out by curated, music-inspired gifts.

What compelled us was how transformative and immersive the whole experience was. Often, temporary spaces are marred by low-quality sets or even just regular wear-and-tear. This installation was top-notch and transformative, and made us want to play, purchase and, of course, take pictures.
